Police arrests man for attempting to murder cop during Nabanna Abhiyan

Following the Nabanna Abhiyan demanding justice for the RG Kar rape and murder case, multiple FIRs were filed against several individuals involved in the violence. The police launched an immediate investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits. Based on their findings, they arrested a man named Chandan Gupta from Jagaddal.

On Saturday, the protests unfolded simultaneously at Park Street and Santragachi under the leadership of the BJP. The demonstration at Park Street, spearheaded by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, saw BJP workers, including Abhaya's parents, clash violently with the police. The situation escalated, resulting in Abhaya's mother being injured and hospitalized, while several police officers also sustained injuries.

Among the injured were DC SSD Bidisha Kalita and Constable Prashant Poddar, who were allegedly assaulted and brutally attacked on the road. The police have filed charges of attempted murder against the attackers for this heinous act. The incident highlighted the intensity of the protest and the breakdown of law and order during the demonstration.

Chandan Gupta was apprehended by the police at the intersection of Bowbazar and Bentinck Street. He is now in police custody, and further investigations are underway to trace and arrest the other individuals who were involved in the assault. The police are continuing their search operations to bring all the perpetrators to justice.
